Installation checklist for buyers: your side of the work

This checklist covers the buyer's side of a solar system installation: what to prepare, what to check when equipment arrives, and what to confirm before the installer leaves. It describes what buyers commonly arrange and verify; your own project's responsibilities are set by your written agreement.

Before and during installation

Before delivery, confirm access: how panels and batteries reach the roof or the plant room, where materials are stored, and who provides scaffolding or lifting where it is needed. When equipment arrives, check model names and quantities against the written configuration before anything is mounted — a wrong model is easy to swap in a crate and expensive to swap on a roof.

During installation, the points a buyer can usefully witness are few but valuable: mounting fixed as specified, cabling routed and protected as agreed, and the backup circuits connected as listed. Photograph the installed nameplates. They are the fastest reference you will ever have for the system's actual contents.

Handover

At handover, ask for the system's documents in one package: the final configuration, the manuals for the installed models, and the answers to the warranty and document questions you confirmed before ordering. Run the backup test while the installer is present. A system that has never been tested in front of its buyer is an untested system, whatever the paperwork says.

Ask for a configuration matched to your site

Before ordering, confirm the minimum order quantity and lead time for your configuration, and ask which documents apply to the exact system you are quoted.
